AHMEDABAD - The hearing on the bail plea of former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, who was arrested in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, was adjourned till August 17.

When the case came up for hearing in the court of CBI Judge G K Upadhyay, Shah’s lawyer Mitesh Amin requested adjournment in the matter saying that their senior counsel Ram Jethmalani was unable to be present.

On Tuesday, the CBI told the court that it would accept the former Deputy Superintendent of Police, Narendra Amin, as an approver and prosecution witness, provided he disclose all details of the case.

Amin is a co-accused in the case and offered his willingness to become an approver.

CBI court will take its decision on Friday after hearing the objections of eight other co-accused- including the former DIG D.G. Vanjara.

The CBI has charged Shah with murder, abduction, extortion and conspiracy. On July 23, it produced a 30,000-page charge sheet-implicating Shah in the case.

Shah was interrogated over three days in jail last week, but the CBI said he did not cooperate and has denied any involvement in the case.

The Supreme Court on January 12 has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI asking it to place before it the report on the progress of the probe within six months by July 31.

Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi were killed in an alleged fake encounter in 2005. (ANI)
