More terrorist organisations in India to face ban

NEW DELHI - The Government on Wednesday informed that the schedule to Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) contains a list of 35 entries/entities, listed as terrorist organisations, apart from nine organizations notified as unlawful associations under this act.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on today said: “The schedule to Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) contains a list of 35 entries/entities which have been listed as terrorist organisations. These organisations operate at inter-State/intra-State/international level, depending on their area of activities.”

“Further, nine organizations have also been notified as Unlawful Associations under the relevant provision of UAPA. Some of these organizations are also listed as terrorist organization,” he added.

“Apart from the above, some other organizations have come to notice for involvement in terrorist/ extremist activities,” he further added.

The Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that the banning of organizations is done as per the due procedure of law. It would not be in public interest to disclose the names of organization which the Government may at any stage be considering for declaring it as unlawful association or as a terrorist organization.
