PNP Signs MOA

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (GaeaTimes.com)- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with some of the leaders of the local film industry with the aim of bringing an end to movie piracy. The PNP Director General Jesus Verzosa met up with some prominent members of the movie industry to reach the deal so that necessary steps could be implemented in order to prevent the privacy of movies in the country.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has been designated as the agency that would be looking after the implementation of the Anti-Camcording Act of 2010 which disallows and penalizes the use, possession as well as the control of audio-visual recording without proper authority. Moreover, the law also prohibits the recording of movies in the theaters even if it means that the recording is being done for personal viewing. PNP Director General Jesus Verzosa talked about the newly-signed MOA and added that with the police authorities joining hands with the movie industry, PNP would indeed be successful in preventing piracy and ultimately achieving the goal of eradicating it completely.

The PNP Director General further stated that apart from conducting raids to confiscate the pirated products, severe steps should be undertaken top punish those who indulge in such kind of illegal activities. One of the initiatives that should be taken by the authorities to combat piracy is canceling the business permits of establishments that cater to pirates and permit sale of pirates movies, Jesus Verzosa added. Meanwhile, according to the law, the person who would be found guilty of piracy would be get an imprisonment of maximum six years and would have to pay a fine of P50,000 to P750,000.
