MELBOURNE - A pair of solid gold, diamond-encrusted shoes worth 100,000 pounds has gone on sale in the UK.

The hand-made Eternal Diamond Stilettos, which are the most expensive footwear in the world, are covered in thousands of diamonds.

A team of goldsmiths craft the shoes from solid sheets of gold, before 2200 diamonds are set by hand, and each pair takes 100 hours to be completed.

So far, five of the sparkly stilettos, which are said to be on the must have list of Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton and Cheryl Cole, have been sold.

Created by designer Christopher Michael Shellis and produced in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, central England, the shoes are then sold through The House of Borgezie.

“Shoes are something women find totally irresistible, and I wanted a way of showcasing my skills of goldsmithing, diamond-setting and design in a way that was really attractive,” the Courier Mail quoted Shellis as saying.

“These shoes are iconic and elegant and are the ultimate form of female expression. The reaction to the shoes has been amazing. People literally stop and stare when they see them,” he said.

The dazzling heels also come with a 1000-year guarantee.

“Unlike some shoes which have diamonds sewn onto them, ours are soldered on so they cannot be destroyed,” Shellis said.

“I like archaeology and love the idea of them being found somewhere 1000 years from now and recognised as an ancient treasure and still as good as the day they were made,” he added. (ANI)
