NEW DELHI - A 62-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her residence here by some unidentified assailants, police said Saturday. Personal enmity was said to be a reason behind the murder.
Shravani Devi was killed at around 1:30 a.m. in Shahpur Jat locality of south Delhi.
Devi, her daughter-in-law Poonam, 28 and grandson Shubham, 6, were fast asleep on the fifth floor of their residence at the time of the incident.
According to a police officer, the assailants armed with knives and home-made firearms barged into the room after Poonam opened the door on hearing a knock on the door.
“The attackers held Poonam hostage at knifepoint, gagged her and hit Shravani on the forehead with the blunt edge of their knives,” the police officer said.
Police have ruled out robbery as the motive behind the murder, and suspect it to be a case of personal enmity.
A case has been registered.
