Sohrabuddin case: CBI challenges lower court order on Amit Shah’s remand

GANDHINAGAR - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenged the order of a lower court rejecting its plea for remand of former Gujarat Minister Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case in the Gujarat High Court on Thursday.
Earlier today, OP Mathur, former Additional Director General of Police, appeared before the CBI for questioning in connection with the case.
On Wednesday, a special court in Ahmedabad rejected a CBI application seeking custody of Amit Shah in connection with the case.
Shah will now be in judicial custody till August 8.
Earlier, the CBI had opposed Shah’s bail plea and had requested the court to put Shah in its custody for five more days, as he was not cooperating during his judicial interrogation. The CBI has charged Shah with murder, abduction, extortion and conspiracy in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
On July 23, it produced a 30,000-page chargesheet-implicating Shah in the case. hah was interrogated over three days in jail last week, but the CBI said he did not cooperate and has denied any involvement in the case.
The Supreme Court on January 12 has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI asking it to place before it the report on the progress of the probe within six months by July 31.
