Commonwealth Games probe, an apt step: Randhir Singh

NEW DELHI - Amid allegations of corruption involved in Commonwealth Games preparations, Randhir Singh, the Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association, has said the probe instituted to ascertain facts is a step in the right direction.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Singh said:” It is in the fitness of things that a probe has been ordered. It’s a right step, and there is nothing to hide. If there is nothing to hide, let it be proved that there is nothing to hide.”

On the issue of several fora demanding the sacking of ministers involved in the alleged corrupt practices vis-�-vis the staging of Commonwealth Games, he said this would be discussed at a meeting convened by him on August 5.

“I think the committee is looking into it, and whatever is appropriate, they will definitely take action and we are totally for transparency. We are very much there for good governance,” he added.

He further mentioned that the meeting is being held in the interest of sports and above all the honour of India, the host country.

India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states.

The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held from October 3 to 14 in New Delhi. (ANI)
