SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- Anyone interested in star gazing will be in for a great treat today. Termed as the ’solar tsunami’ by NASA, tons of plasma will erupt from the surface of the sun into the space tonight. In a statement released by the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, the plasma eruption will result in a beautiful light show in the sky.

The plasma eruption, known as the coronal mass ejection in scientific terms was first caught in the NASA cameras. Scientists in NASA say that this eruption, visible in Earth’s skies, is not an unknown phenomenon but has not been seen for a couple of years now. Explaining the term, scientists have defined the solar tsunami as the collision of solar particles with atoms of nitrogen and oxygen which are ever present in the Earth’s atmosphere. The collision leads to a glowing in the space just like neon signs. Since the neon light comes out in a burst, it has been termed as the solar tsunami.

Astronomer Leon Golub announced that the residents of the northern parts of the country will be the luckiest ones in terms viewing the solar tsunami. The residents in this part of the country will have to train their eyes to the northern skies to get the best view of the plasma eruption said the announcement made by him from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. The neon lights will be red and green in color, says NASA, and excitement among the American masses is on the rise. Brightly-lighted areas will however not get a taste of the real beauty, so citizens have been asked to move to suburban parts of the US to get the best view of the solar tsunami.
