RAMNAGAR - A three-year-old injured female leopard, which was rescued by the forest staff of the Bailpadav Range, has died in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand.

Villagers found the leopard lying in an injured state and informed forest rangers.

The animal was taken to Bailpadav where veterinary doctors from Jim Corbett Park treated it.

Efforts to save the animal went in vain, as the animal was too weak.

It was suspected that the leopard had not eaten for a couple of days.

“We rescued a leopard and while bringing it to the Range Office it died on the way. The first reason of death it is speculated either a tiger or some other big animal must have injured it and it died due to the injuries. And the leopard was also very weak and it seems the animal had not eaten anything for many days,” said P C Arya, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Tarai Wild Forest Division, Ramnagar.

Arya said the wounds on its body indicated that the leopard was attacked by a tiger either while stealing the animal’s prey or for entering its territory.
