Curfew clamped in Kashmir Valley after violence

SRINAGAR - Curfew was imposed across the Kashmir Valley on Saturday following Friday’s clashes between civilian protesters and security forces, in which four people were killed and over 50 injured.

Restrictions have been in place to prevent further protests.

Massive clashes were reported from the Pattan area where a police station was set ablaze by protesters.

Mobs also torched two police buses outside and a railway protection force hutments.

Trouble started in Srinagar when security forces opened fire on a stone-pelting mob in the old Channapora are of uptown Srinagar.

Clashes soon spread to adjoining localities, including Rambagh and Barzulla on the Srinagar-Airport Road, as people defied curfew restrictions and indulged in violence.

When protesters refused to disperse, police burst teargas shells and used batons to chase them away.

The protesters regrouped and later pelted stones in a police station at nearby Pattan.

At least 19 people have been killed in the clashes between protesters and security forces since June 11. (ANI)
