No rise in violent incidents in North East during 2008-10 (Jan. to June)

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): The Government on Wednesday said that the comparative data related to violent incidents in North Eastern States collected of January to June in 2008 to 2010 doesn’t reflect any increase in militant activities.

Stating in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs M.Ramachandran said the Government is aware that the normal life of common people do get affected due to activities of certain militant groups who indulge in various insurgent activities including kidnapping for ransom, extortion, etc.

“The Central Government has deployed Central Security Forces to aid the State authorities for carrying out counter insurgency operations and providing security for vulnerable institutions and installations; shared intelligence on continuous basis; gave financial assistance for strengthening of the local Police Forces and intelligence agencies under the Police Modernization Scheme; and provided assistance for strengthening various aspect of the security apparatus and counter-insurgency operations and raising India Reserve Battalions by way of reimbursement of Security Related Expenditure,”he informed.

“The scheme is being implemented in all States of the region except Mizoram and Sikkim. Unified Command has been set up in the States of Assam and Manipur to ensure coordinated operations,” he added.
