I’m not preaching my life choices as a model for other people, says Julia Gillard

MELBOURNE - In a candid interview with a women’s magazine, Aussie PM Julia Gillard has said that she doesn’t want people to see her life choices as a model to follow.

Gracing the cover of the August edition of the Australian Women’s Weekly, Gillard opened up about her views on marriage, being an idol for others, and partner Tim Mathieson.

In what is being touted as a welcome free kick in the election campaign, the interview is Gillard’s uninterrupted pitch to millions of women, mainly in the “working families” voting bloc aged in their 30s and 40s.

However, she doesn’t believe her personal choices should be an example for others to follow.

“I’m not preaching my life choices as a model for other people. It’s my life, I made my choices, I don’t regret my choices nor am I urging anybody to mimic them,” News.com.au quoted her as saying.

Talking of marriage she said: “It’s not that I have anything against the institution of marriage, it’s just the accumulation of a set of life choices that has led me to this point.”

On future with partner Tim Mathieson, she said: “I’m not going to rule anything in or out, but I would say that any discussion about marriage would be about me and Tim, not about The Lodge, or being prime minister or elections or government, or any of those things”.

But she tells the magazine most people don’t care about her personal life and instead want to know where she stands on policy. (ANI)
