MELBOURNE - A woman in Melbourne, Australia, who was hit, dragged and threatened with a knife by a man who tried to rape her, was only saved when her dog fought off the rapist.

The 29-year-old woman was walking alone with her dog in Gilpin Park, Brunswick, about 10pm on July 20 when the attack took place, the Courier Mail reported.

She told police the man struck her on the forehead with an unknown object, dragged her about five metres and threw her to the ground before he produced a knife and held it to her throat, warning her not to say anything.

But as the man tried to sexually assault her, her dog barked and tried to bite the attacker.

The would-be rapist fled from the scene but not before he kicked the woman, who was left with bruises to her hip and rib and scratches to her neck. (ANI)
