NDC to review mid term 11 five year plan today

NEW DELHI - The National Development Council (NDC) will meet here today for mid year review of the XIth five year plan.
The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and would be attended by chief ministers of all the states.
The meeting will discuss development agenda and issues related to Agriculture, Urban development, water and energy and development issues of tribal regions of the country.
It will discuss introduction of goods and services tax from next year. It will also consider the main issues of the XIIth Plan.
The council will also discuss the role to be played by the Railways in terms of better freight movement.
Earlier, Dr Singh had said that developmental issues in Maoist-affected states will be discussed in greater detail in the NDC meeting and that the state of affairs in tribal areas needed to be changed.
Besides NDC members, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Union Minister of State for Planning V Narayan Swamy will also take part in the meeting. (ANI)
