GUJARAT, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The concept of an affordable people’s car has been popularized by Tata Motors of India. After much media speculation and controversy surrounding its small car Nano the car was actually unveiled two years back. It was promised to be priced within $2500. At the time the company expressed its desire to export the car to foreign countries in near future. After two years of its debut the company has come up with the upgraded version of Nano meant for the foreign market. The Nano CX 2011 model has undergone inspection by the car reviewers and the reaction on its viability in the US market is mixed.
The Nano CX 2011 is much cheaper than the cheapest compact car in the USA for sure. However, inspite of the revamped interiors and added features the car misses out on several basic components used in entry level cars in the USA. For example the Nissan Versa which is considered by the Americans as a small car is much larger than the Nano CX. The biggest concern the US users may raise is over safety. Unlike typical compact cars the Nano does not have any traditional crush zones. The small cars nowadays also come with collision impact absorption system. In its bid to save space and cost Tata has not equipped the car with any such feature.
The Nano CX does not have a powerful engine and for most of the users 33BHP is meager. To get approval from US motor safety authorities the car will have to be fitted with several safety features which will raise its price to $8000 at least.
