IMPHAL - Scores of residents of Imphal and the nearby villages staged a sit-in demonstration here on Wednesday to protest against certain unidentified miscreants abducting Yumnam Manaoba, an innocent rural student for monetary and other gains.
Manaoba was abducted from his home on July 19.
The abductors are reported to be militants of some terror outfit, who asked for fixing up a meeting with Manipur Health and Family Welfare Minister Parijat Singh, as they wanted to undertake a contractor project for the ongoing renovation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Parijat Singh has hit out at the kidnappers of Manaoba and said they are none but terrorists.
“They are not insurgents, they are terrorists, because they are asking me to give some 10 crore works. They are not constructors,” said Parijat Singh.
It has been reported that the abductors contacted Y Megha Singh, father of Yumnam Manaoba to fix up the appointment.egha Singh is Communist Party of India (CPI) Secretary for Lamlai constituency in Manipur.
“On the night of July 19, they leapt over the gate and came in forcing my wife to wake up. Without any words they forcibly took away our son in a white Tata Magic van without heeding the villagers, who wanted to stop them from carrying the boy,” said Megha Singh.
“Later on July 20, they called me up, demanding to arrange an appointment with the Health Minister by 12 p.m. and negotiate for the safe release of my son. The miscreants had threatened to take stringent action if the message is not delivered to Parijat Singh,” he added. (ANI)
