Tamad (Jharkhand), July 21 (ANI): The Central Reserve Security Force (CRPF) personnel recovered as much as 70-80 kilograms of explosives in Tamad village near Jharkhand’s Ranchi city during a combing operation against the Maoists.

Acting on a tip off, the security personnel raided the village on Tuesday and found gunny bags full of thousands of explosive boxes in a drain in the forest region surrounding Tamad village and Bundu village.

“These are high explosives. If ten boxes of these explosives are used, then it can blow up a very huge vehicle. And we have recovered thousands of such boxes. The Maoists had hidden these explosives,” said Nihal Singh, Assistant Commander, Central Reserve Security Force (CRPF).

“The Maoists would have used it on the right occasion against the secret forces. They could have also used it to make mines in the jungle,” he added.he CRPF speculates that Maoists were plotting to deter the ongoing combing operation in the region.

“This is about 70-80 kilograms of explosives. There are thousands of explosive boxes. It has RDX as well,” said Singh.

“The investigations are still going on to find out the contents of the explosives. But the cover of the container reads ‘High Explosives’,” he added.

Maoist attacks have increased this year, especially after the government launched a coordinated security offensive, involving tens of thousands of police and paramilitaries trying to flush out rebels from their jungle hideouts in central and eastern India. (ANI)
