CHENNAI - Aiming to step up her campaign for the next year’s assembly polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa will lead a protest against the ruling Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) Government at Tiruchirappally on August 24 against price rise and the failure to tackle it.

“I will lead the protest at Tiruchirappally on August 24 against the DMK government which has failed to control price rise and illegal mining of sand,” said Jayalalithaa in a party statement issued in Chennai on Wednesday.

Jayalalithaa claimed that the increase in prices and the power cut situation has affected the overall growth of Tamil Nadu’s economy, which has further led to a decrease in agricultural produce.

“In 2005-06, when AIADMK was in power, more than 52,000 tonnes of rice was produced in the State on over 20,000 hectares of land but this had come down to over 50,000 tonnes in 2007-08 on over 17,000 hectares of land, during the current DMK regime,” she added.

Jayalalithaa further charged the DMK Government with not taking any steps to make the Karnataka Government release water in accordance with the ruling by Cauvery River Water Tribunal. (ANI)
