By ANITuesday, July 20, 2010
LAHORE - Pakistan has said that India would get any benefit from the transit trade agreement that it recently inked with Afghanistan.
Talking to media persons at the airport here, Federal Minister for Trade Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that Islamabad has signed a deal with Afghanistan under which goods from Afghanistan would be transported to India via Pakistan, but there was no option of a vice-versa movement.
Fahim, however, revealed that talks were underway to strike a similar understanding with India also.
“Pakistan is completely independent to enter into any trade agreement with the neighbouring countries, as such agreements were in the interest of the country, ” The News quoted Fahim, as saying.
Responding to a question, he said providing European and Asian countries an access to the Afghan market will not affect China’s interests. (ANI)
