Man held trying to board plane with loaded pistol
AMSTERDAM — Police say guards at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport have arrested a man who was trying to board a flight to the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao with a loaded pistol in his jacket pocket.
Dutch military police spokesman Robert van Kapel says there is no indication the 35-year-old Dutch man was planning a terror attack.
The unidentified man was being questioned Tuesday by military police after the weapon was detected during routine security checks.
Security at Schiphol has been under a spotlight since Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian student, flew from the airport to Detroit on Christmas Day with explosives in his underwear. Abdulmutallab allegedly tried to detonate the explosives over the United States before being subdued by passengers and crew.
