KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia’s Human Resource Minister Dr S. Subramaniam has asked the Indian community to change its mindset of having a doctor in every household.

Dr Subramaniam advised Indian students to rethink about their field of study, and said: “Our community has a perception that each Indian family should at least have a doctor in a family.”

“However, we must have the right mind to decide which field offers a higher demand and supply in order to help us grow,” The Star quoted him, as saying.

Dr Subramaniam said parents should not be spending so much money and time in order to send their kids to be doctors only to find out later that there was no job demand.

“Everyone must understand the supply and demand scenario in any profession,” he added.

He said out of 1,810 Indian students who applied for PSD scholarship, only 1,011 were called for first interview and only 361 managed to obtain the scholarship.

Dr Subramaniam also said the PSD scholarship was a fair system as it was based on merit, racial quota and background of students. (ANI)
