14-year-old Dutch girl’s mum allows daughter to sail around the globe

NEW YORK - A 14-year-old Dutch girl is set to sail around the world - less than five weeks after an American girl ran into trouble attempting the same trip.
And Laura Dekker has been given thumbs up by her mother for the same trip.
Dekker’s dream of becoming the youngest person to circumnavigate the world was broken when a Dutch court said that she was too inexperienced in 2009.
They took temporary guardianship over her, worried about her physical capability and mental state if she went on the two-year trip, reports The New York Daily News.
“I know she can do it, she’s a strong girl who does not give up easily,” Dekker’s mom, Bab Mueller said.
“Of course no mother on earth likes it if her daughter goes to sea alone. I will have sleepless nights from the worry, but this is about Laura and how I can help her,” she added. (ANI)
