MELBOURNE - A Police Commissioner in Australia has warned all officers to be aware of sponsorship protocol after a strip club supported one of the force’s charity events.

At the Mackay Detectives Business Function in June 23, it was reported Showbar 140 memberships were up for grabs in their annual auction for charity, the Courier Mail reported.

The strip club memberships were snapped up to help raise funds for Sea FM’s Give Me Five for Kids hospital charity.

Showbar 140 was the same club embroiled in a liquor licensing controversy last month.

Sponsorship by the adult entertainment group was against the police service’s policy.

The Queensland Police Service said it did not benefit in any way from the charity event.

Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson reminded all staff that before sponsorship arrangements were made, they must consider the force’s reputation within the community. (ANI)
