Films based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novels screened in Tripura

AGARTALA - A four-day film festival is showing films based on novels written by Indian Nobel Laurate Rabindranath Tagore in Agartala, Tripura.
The festival began on Friday and will go till Tuesday. It is being held to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore.
The information and cultural affairs department of the Tripura Government along with Cine Delve, a film society, has organized the festival.
“The relationship of Tripura with Rabindranath Tagore is since very long time. He had a very good relationship with the kings of Tripura, we and people from all over the world feel from the heart and that is why we are doing this film festival, we have started the festival with some of his famous movies,” said Dulal Chakraborty, a local.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the festival.
Various dance performances were also organised on the occasion.
“He has written all the valuable and useful things in life through poems, songs and even through plays,” said Madhabi Mukhopadhyay, an actor.
The festival includes films of internationally well-known directors like Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Purnendu Patri, besides documentaries on Tagore.
The state government is also constructing a 1,800-seat Rabindra Memorial Centre in Agartala at a cost of Rs.275 million. By Pinaki Das (ANI)
