High alert in Guwahati following bomb blast

GUWAHATI - A high alert has been sounded in Guwahati following the arrest of three Manipuri extremists after a bomb explosion at Fancy Bazar in Guwahati.

Self-styled captain of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) Benjamin and two cadres were arrested by a joint team of CRPF from Chandmari area.

During interrogation, the arrested insurgents revealed that their organisation had brought four bombs of which one planted bomb at exploded at Fancy Bazar. ccording to police, at about 8.50 pm a patrol party noticed an unclaimed jute bag lying on the pavement with a package inside. They immediately ordered people in the market to leave and called the bomb disposal squad.

However, the bomb exploded before the bomb disposal squad arrived.

Additional security has been deployed in the area. All police stations have been put on alert. (ANI)
