DUBAI - Confessed Times Square bomb plotter Faisal Shahzad had planned the May 1 terror strike to take revenge from the US for waging war against Afghanistan, a video released by a television channel has revealed.

The video aired by the Al-Arabiya television channel is said to have been recorded by the Taliban before the failed bombing.

“This attack on the United States will also be a revenge attack for all the mujahideen,” the video showed Shahzad, as saying.

“Eight years have passed since the Afghanistan war and you shall see how the Muslim war has just begun and how Islam will spread across the world,” the US citizen of Pakistani origin added.

The 40-minute videotape shows Shahzad in a black turban cradling an AK-47 as he mumbles and stammers to praise killed Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud and top Al Qaeda leader Abu Musabal-Zarqawi.

“I will be taking revenge on their behalf, insha’Allah. Democracy will be defeated,” The New York Daily News quoted him, as saying in the video.

Shahzad had babbled in a similar fashion when he pleaded ‘100 times guilty’ before a New York court last month.

“I’m going to plead guilty a hundred times over because until the hour the U.S. pulls its forces from Iraq and Afghanistan and stops the drone strikes . . . we will be attacking the U.S,” he had told the court. (ANI)
