ANC leads protest march in Srinagar

SRINAGAR - The regional Awami National Conference (ANC) led a protest march here on Thursday.
It condemned the recent killings of civilians during clashes between protestors and security forces. ANC party president Begum Khalida Shah led the protest march from the party headquarters in Srinagar.
“The killings that are taking place here, innocent people are being imprisoned, and even party leaders are being put into jails, Bar Association people are being put behind bars, but this will not alter the thinking of the people,” Shah said.
She urged security forces to curb acts of violence.
“This is my appeal to everyone, especially our police, that they should stop these killings, stop these acts of violence,” Shah added.
In several areas of the Valley, including Nowhatta, Tengpora, Chota Bazaar, Fateh Kadal, Rambagh, etc in Srinagar, people, including women and children, staged peaceful sit-in protests.
The protestors raised slogans demanding freedom and condemning innocent killings, and urged for restoration of peace in the valley.
However, shops, educational institutions, market places remained closed and public transportation was off the roads as the Valley remained shut for another day on Thursday.(ANI)
