WARANGAL - The Andhra Pradesh police shot down S Ramarao alias Ganesh, the self-styled Naxal team commander of CPI-ML New Democracy Group, in an encounter in a forest area in Warangal District on Tuesday.
Ramarao hailed from Gujudu village under Kothaguda mandal in the district.
The police had to open fire to disperse the protestors, who were terming it to be a fake encounter.
“The situation was brought under control even as the slain Naxal’s body was removed for post-mortem,” said a police officer.
An exchange of fire broke out between the police party and suspected Naxalites, when the former was conducting a combing operation in view of the shutdown call given by the ultras to protest the killing of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Azad.
Andhra Pradesh police killed Azad in an encounter in the Jogapur forest area of Andhra Pradesh’s Adilabad District early on July 2, while he was attempting to cross into neighbouring Maharashtra. (ANI)
