Illegal mining: Karnataka CM unfazed by opposition protests

BANGALORE - Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday said he was unfazed by the opposition protest to the illegal mining issue, and ruled out a CBI probe against the mining magnates Reddy brothers.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the opposition has marred the sanctity of the Assembly by staging such gimmicks.

“We have decided to form a House Committee to enquire into the incident. We have also decided to meet the Prime Minister and President and request them to stop exporting mines to other countries,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the opposition leaders are trying to politicise the issue. They are not interested in discussing the matter with the House and instead are spoiling the sanctity of the house by having non-vegetarian food etc. They have totally gone against the established traditions of the House. I am ready to discuss these issues with the opposition leaders, but they should cooperate as well,” he added.

“The speaker will take necessary actions for the behaviour of the MLAs. However, let me confirm that there will not be a CBI enquiry in the illegal mining issue. The question of a CBI enquiry does not even arise,” Yeddyurappa said.

His comments came after 45 MLAs from the opposition continued to lock themselves in the assembly building.

The lawmakers are protesting no action against mining magnates the Reddy brothers and in violation of all rules. (ANI)
