Harvey Pekar Dies At 70

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS (GaeaTimes.com)- Iconic comic writer Harvey Pekar passed away on Monday in his Cleveland, Ohio residence at the age of 70. The cult comic-book writer who had penned the highly popular comic-book series “American Splendor” which was his autobiographical work, was found deed in his home in the early hours of Monday morning by his wife, Joyce Brabner. Although Harvey Pekar is known to have been suffering from prostrate cancer, the cause of his death has not been forthcoming as yet. A spokesperson of the Cuyahoga County coroner’s office has revealed to the media that an autopsy would be conducted soon to determine the reason of the legendary comic writer’s demise.

According to police authorities, they received a call from Harvey Pekar’s home at 1 a.m local time on Monday and on reaching the Cleveland Ohio house, his body was found lying between the bed and the drawer. Meanwhile, his wife has divulged to the cops that the celebrated comic-book writer had gone to sleep on Sunday in perfectly sound health owing to which the cause of his demise is yet to be ascertained. Apart from battling prostrate cancer, Harvey Pekar is also known to be suffering from asthma and high blood pressure.

The eminent comic-book writer chronicled his life and experiences in the series “American Splendor” which was published for the very first time way back in the 1976. The series ran till 2008 and had been successful in drawing ardent followers who would eagerly wait for every issue of the series. In 2003, the comic-book series was made into a film in which Paul Giamatti edged the character of Harvey Pekar.
