Nawaz tried to befool Pak with resolution against media: Awan

LAHORE - Referring to the Punjab Assembly’s resolution against the media, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif was trying to befool the nation.

Highlighting that there was no concept in democracy of putting curbs on the media, he said that it was a truly non-parliamentary act.

Awan further said that the PML-N chief should disclose the actual persons who moved the resolution and should not present PML-N member provincial assembly Sana Ullah Mastikhel as a scapegoat.

“He (Sharif) should bring forth the actual culprit who has done all this (orchestrated the plan to get an anti-media resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly),” The Daily Times quoted Awan, as saying.

“You are the biggest institution for freedom of expression and the nation has the right to know who exactly confronted it,” he added.

The provincial government’s media bill has asked media representatives to observe impartiality in covering events and ‘refrain from adopting an insulting attitude towards legislators’.

The resolution also asked the media houses to discourage ‘baseless’ reporting and demonstrate responsibility. (ANI)
