Countdown begins for launch of ISRO’s PSLV-C15

CHENNAI - The over 51-hour long count down for the 17th flight launch of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-Continuation-15 or PSLV-C15 began on Saturday at Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota spaceport.

The launch from is scheduled to take place around 9.22 a.m. on Monday.

Officials said the launch of the PSLV-C 15, which would put five satellites into the orbit, would be held on schedule.

These satellites include remote sensing satellite Cartosat-2B from India, Alsat from Algeria, nano satellites from Canada and Switzerland and Studsat built by seven engineering students from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka respectively.he satellite would help in urban planning and infrastructure development such as laying ring roads and rerouting of highways.

“This particular PSLV-C 15 rocket will be used for putting remote sensing satellite Cartosat-2B in the orbit. This Cartosat-2B will be used for mapping purposes,” said T.S. Subramanian, Associate Editor of ‘The Hindu’.

“The maps and images that would be gathered from it would be used for laying Ring Roads, alignment of canals and also to keep a watch on deforestation,” he added.

The PSLV launch was to take place on May 9 this year, but was postponed because of a drop in pressure in the vehicle’s second stage. (ANI)
