Navy admiral killed in accidental firing cremated

KOCHI - The last rites of Rear Admiral S.S. Jamwal, who died in accidental firing Wednesday, were performed here Friday with military honours.
The funeral at the Palluruthy Corporation Crematorium was led by Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command Vice Admiral K.N. Sushil.
The cortege left the official residence of Jamwal, who was the second-in-command of the Southern Naval Command, after his wife Geeta and children bid their farewell.
Indian Navy personnel lined up either side of the road and paid their last respects.
Twenty four-men guard comprising naval personnel fired in the air as a mark of respect to the departed officer as his mortal remains were consigned to flames.
Civil and navy officials paid floral tributes to the officer who was killed Wednesday when a bullet from his pistol hit him during a training session in a gunnery school close to the headquarters of the Southern Naval Command in Kochi city.
