Curfew relaxed in Kashmir Valley

SRINAGAR - Authorities relaxed curfew in Srinagar and other major towns of the Kashmir Valley for four hours Tuesday following improvement in the overall law and order situation.
“Curfew has been relaxed for four hours from 3 p.m. onwards in Srinagar city and other towns of the Valley,” a police officer said here.
“However, it was reimposed immediately in Sopore town following attempts by some miscreants to disrupt law and order,” he added.
Authorities also said the announced relaxation could be extended depending on the law and order situation.
Curfew was relaxed after the 39-member all-party delegation left Srinagar for winter capital Jammu.
The delegation comprising leaders of various national parties is visiting the state to get a sense of the ground situation before deciding on steps to defuse tensions.
Over 100 people have died in unending street protests in the Kashmir Valley since June 11 in retaliatory firing by security forces on stone-pelting mobs.
As per the protest calendar announced by hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, people have been asked to resume normal activity across the valley Wednesday.
