SRINAGAR - A teenager was shot dead in Srinagar Tuesday evening, taking the number of people killed in firing by security forces during the day to three.

Abrar Ahmad, 14, was killed when security forces fired at an agitated mob in Maisuma area as people in hundreds came out to join the funeral procession of a 25-year old woman killed in the firing in Danderkhah area of the city in Batmaloo earlier.

Owais Ahmed alias Mandella was critically injured and has been shifted to hospital in a critical condition.

Tensions rose in the city this morning after the body of Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, 17, was fished out from a stream in Gangbugh (Batmaloo) area here.

Locals and relatives alleged Bhat drowned in the stream after security forces chased a stone pelters in the area Monday evening.

Earlier, 30-year-old Fayaz Ahmed Wani, a government employee, died of a bullet injury in a clash with security forces who fired to disperse a mob protesting Bhat’s death.

The woman, Fancy, was killed after security forces allegedly opened fire at demonstrators protesting Wani’s killing.

Loudspeaker-mounted police vehicles are moving through the city announcing the imposition of an indefinite curfew, but mobs continue to gather on the roads throughout the city as announcements are being made from mosques asking people to come out of their homes.
