MELBOURNE - Indian-origin surgeon “Dr. Death” Jayant Patel, who was sentenced to seven years in jail for the manslaughter of Mervyn Morris, Gerardus Kemps and James Phillips, has been moved to a new Brisbane jail today.

The Brisbane Supreme Court jury also found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to Ian Vowles on Thursday.

The charges all relate to Patel’s time as director of surgery at the Bundaberg Base Hospital between 2003 and 2005.

Since his conviction, he’s been held at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre, at Wacol in Brisbane’s southwest.

Patel will be moved on Monday to the nearby Brisbane Correctional Centre, a Corrective Services spokesman said.

He said Patel, 60, would then undergo an assessment to determine which jail will be his permanent home.

Patel will be eligible for parole in three and a half years for his crimes, which relate to his time as director of surgery, News.com.au reports. (ANI)
