Prices of vegetables, fruits shoot up in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD - The price rise in fuel has led to a rise in prices of vegetables and fruits in Ahmedabad as transportation rates of the commodities have increased.
Consumers say that the fuel price hike was enough to increase their problems, but now the rise in vegetable prices has made it more difficult for them to manage their household needs.
“Inflation has increased a lot. There is no rain also. Fuel prices and gas prices have also increased. What will the people buy and eat?” said Gauri, a homemaker.
“The petrol price hike has led to the price rise in vegetables. There have been no rains as well, and that is why there are no commodities in the market. This has led to increase in prices of vegetables,” said Jasvantkumar Ramaji, a vegetable merchant.
The officials of the state market committee agree that there has been a 10 percent decrease in the amount of vegetables coming in the market.
“If we talk about this month, we used to get about 20,000 quintals per day but now we get only 18,000 quintals. 2,000 quintals is less this month. There has been 10 per cent decrease in the commodities that come into the market,” said Narendrasingh Chhasatia, Secretary of Agricultural Produce Market Committee. (ANI)
