MUMBAI/NEW DELHI - Two Indian Navy submarines were involved in a minor collision at Mumbai naval docks last week, causing minor damage to one vessel’s rudder, defence officials Saturday said.

A defence official here said details of the incident are still being collected and denied that either of the two submarines had sustained any major damage.

According to sources, the two submarines - Sindhuratna and Sindhukesari of the diesel-electric Sindhughosh class - grazed against each other.

In Delhi, Navy spokesman Commander P.V.S. Satish told IANS that the incident took place a week ago when one of the submarines in the Mumbai dockyard brushed past the other berthed vessel while berthing.

“One suffered a damage to its rudder, which is handleable locally,” he said, adding a committee had been set up to ascertain the damage.
