HOUSTON (GaeaTimes.com)- Hurricane Alex lashed the Houston region over 2 days though it weakened into a storm later and the area did not suffer extensive damages from it. However, the storm caused lot of rainfall in Houston and adjacent areas fort two days and it seems that the effect will continue till Saturday. The ship operations at the crucial oil and petrochemical port of Houston have resumed. The storm and accompanying rainfall caused a number of ships stranded for days and they could not enter the port. Also a number of other ships could not depart from the port till Friday. The weekend will be rainy but the weather will improve from Sunday which would possibly put an end to the downpour. Floodwater wrecked havoc with some houses in West Columbia.

A lot of areas in Houston received moderate to heavy rainfall over these two days though Thursday was the wettest day. The rainfall also affected air traffic movement. The airports in and around Houston had to cancel and delay a number of flights. Some flights needed to be diverted to the Ellington Airport. The air traffic has now returned to normal but sky will remain cloudy and hence the airports have been alerted. The residents also have become fed up of the weather and some expressed grudges fort the incessant rainfall since Thursday.

Along with the inclement weather in Houston the residents had to put up with intermittent power outages. CenterPoint Energy reported that almost 20000 subscribers had to stay without power for some time. The weather office has said that the worst is over.
