JAMMU - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists staged demonstration against the Jammu and Kashmir government here on Saturday (July 03).

Protesters also clashed with police and charged it with having failed to control the situation.

The workers later courted arrest.

“I am condemning the situation created by the state police. We have called for a state shutdown today. Our MLAs courted arrest for our fundamental rights, for our security forces and against militancy, “said Surinder Sharma, State General Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sharma said many of the party workers have been taken into custody.

“Almost five MLAs are under police custody, the state police also detained our 150 party workers, ” claimed Sharma.

The situation in the valley has been tense over the past week due to repeated clashes between protestors and the security forces.

The latest round of demonstrations by some locals in Kashmir was sparked off by the death of at least 11 people over the past two weeks. (ANI)
