Summary Box: Dr Pepper swaps in sugar temporarily

THE DRINK: Dr Pepper is switching in sugar and switching out high fructose corn syrup temporarily this summer to mark its 125th anniversary. Cans and bottles will feature old designs. They’ll be available starting this weekend through early September.

THE REASON: Manufacturers are testing the market for sugar as people’s appetite for it increases. Some are concerned about corn syrup, which sweetens most soft drinks.

THE RIVALS: Last summer PepsiCo launched real sugar versions of Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Pepsi Throwback was so popular PepsiCo brought it back briefly last winter.
