RANCHI - The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) called for a 24-hour shutdown here on Friday against the police baton-charge on protesting college students at the Governor house on June 29.

As the protestors took to the streets and forced the shutdown of shops, the traffic came to a still.

The police later detained two student protestors.

“Keeping in mind the educational problems and university shutdown, some student activists were protesting at the Raj Bhawan (Governor’s Residence), where the policemen brutally baton-charged our protestors,” said ABVP Secretary Amit Kumar Tiwari.

“We are also condemning shutdown against the irresponsible and corrupt university authorities. We are observing a peaceful shutdown in Jharkhand, and we want to spread the message that students are not going to tolerate any kind of mistreatment,” he added.

The Jharkhand Police had on Tuesday baton-charged the students, who were demonstrating at the Governor’s residence against the ongoing strike of non-teaching staff in the colleges. (ANI)
