Abu Dhabi, July 1 (IANS/WAM) Germany’s two bestselling novels — “Lippels Traum” (Lippel’s Dream) and “Kartoffelkaferzeiten” (Potato Beetle Times) — will be translated into Arabic to make them available for readers in the United Arab Emirtaes.

Kalima, the translation project of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), has decided to translate the two books written by famous German author Paul Maar.

Maar, who was born in 1937 and studied painting and art history, has written a large number of novels, short stories and plays. He has won many awards for his works, some of which have been turned into films.

The translator of the book, Khalil Al-Sheikh, who obtained his doctorate from Germany in 1986, teaches at the Department of Arabic Language at Jordan’s Yarmouk University.

“Lippel’s Dream” depicts the cultural encounter between the East and the West through a boy’s dreams and reality.

“Potato Beetle Times”, set in the backdrop of World War II, takes into account of the plight of a boy in southern Germany whose father was held captive in Russia.
