White House says McChrystal to retire as four-star general

WASHINGTON - The White House has said that General Stanley McChrystal will retire from the U.S. Army as a four-star general.
The New York Post quoted White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, as saying on Tuesday that McChrystal is expected to retain his rank in his retirement, despite the fact that he was not “technically” in his position long enough to leave at the level.
The general informed the office that handles Army retirements Monday of his decision, but no official paperwork has been filed, an Army spokesman told Fox News.
President Barack Obama removed McChrystal from command in the wake of a profile published in Rolling Stone magazine that featured strong criticism of the administration’s civilian leadership of the conflict. (ANI)
