PATNA - Unemployed medicos in Patna polished footwear in protest to voice their anguish at not being given any employment by the State government.
Under the banner of Health and Education Reform Association, the protesting doctors with stethoscopes around their necks polished the shoes here on Tuesday.
Graduate doctors of Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) hoped that the authorities would take note and provide them with jobs.
Doctors said that repeated pleas with officials had fallen on deaf ears.
“The main reason for this shoe polish is that for the past one month we have been going and meeting the Health Minister, Deputy Chief Secretary and Chief Secretary…they always said that they would pass the proposal by the cabinet at the earliest… They even said that it would happen sooner or later. Or they would say come next week and often said that they don’t know anything about it!,” said Dr. Arvind Patel, President of Health and Education Reform Association.
“The vacancies were announced in 2009 and six months have passed… Lakhs of patients have died in Bihar but, the Chief Minister and Health Minister don’t seem to care about this matter…that there are lakhs of patients dying and thousands of unemployed doctors sitting idle and forced to go to Delhi for employment,” Patel added.
