Naxals killed 91 people in June: Chidambaram

NEW DELHI - Expressing concern over the increasing Maoist menace, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday informed that the ultras killed at least 91 people in 145 different violent incidents in the month of June.

Presenting the monthly report card of the Union Home Ministry Chidambaram said: “The CPI (Maoist) continued to commit acts of violence and other depredations in pursuance of their declared armed liberation struggle.”

” In the month of June, 56 civilians and 35 security forces were killed in 145 incidents,” he added.

Chidambaram said the Maoists killed 32 people suspecting them to be police informers.

“Thirty-two of those killed were labeled as informers by the naxalites. Eighteen naxalites were killed in police action, 163 naxalites were apprehended/arrested and 81 IEDs were recovered,” he said.

Chidambaram further said two naxalites surrendered to the police in this month.

Expressing shock over the killing of 27 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, Chidambaram said the CRPF Director General is visiting the incident spot and only after his return, it will be clear whether forces followed Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) or not.

Earlier on Tuesday, the naxalites ambushed a road opening party of the CRPF, returning from duty, in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur District and killed 27 jawans. (ANI)
