Summary Box: Home prices rise in April
HOME VALUES RISE: Home prices edged up 0.8 percent in April from March, the first gain in seven months, according to Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index.
BROADBASED GAINS: Eighteen of the 20 cities tracked by the survey showed price increases in April from the previous month. Only Miami and New York recorded price declines.
CLOUDY HORIZON: Prices likely will retreat next month because government tax credits for homebuyers expired at the end of April.
