Security personnel killed in encounter with Maoists in West Bengal

JHARGRAM - A personnel of the Specially Trained Armed Company (STRACO) was killed and four others were injured during an encounter with the Maoists in the forests skirting Jhargram in West Bengal’s West Medinipur District.
The slain STRACO personnel has been identified as Mohammad Isahurul Islam.
The counter operation against the ultras had commenced late on Saturday night, and is still continuing.
Police also suspect that at least three to four Maoists were killed during the encounter.
However, the locals said that they are passing their days in fear, apprehending attack from the Maoists and also the security personnel.
“We are in fear, we left our home although we have our farms in there. Too much firing was happening so we left our homes. Our children also came with us. My mother-in-law and father-in-law stay at our home, they can’t leave because they are old,” said Gouri Mahata, a local.
Earlier, on June 16, security personnel killed eight Maoists including three women in an encounter near Salboni town also West Medinipur district. (ANI)
