SRINAGAR - A 22-year old youth was killed after being hit by a rubber bullet when an angry mob defied curfew restrictions and resorted to heavy stone pelting on security personnel in Kashmir’s Sopore town Sunday evening, a police official said.

The youth, identified as Bilal Ahmad Wani, 22, was hit by a rubber bullet in the neck during the violent protests in Kralteng area of the town, a senior police officer here said.

“The youth was immediately shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment, but doctors at the Sher-e-Kashmir Soura Medical Institute said the youth had succumbed to critical injuries before reaching the hospital,” the officer said.

An indefinite curfew was imposed in Sopore town after two youth were killed Friday when the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers, returning from a gunfight, fired in self-defence after their vehicle was attacked and torched by a stone pelting mob.
