JOHANNESBURG - The South African police has nabbed six Pakistani civilians for running a fake passport shop in Pretoria.
According to reports, a large number of forged birth certificates, IDs, work permits and South African passports were recovered from the shop during the raid.
Confirming the arrests, home affairs minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said the arrests
vindicate the government’s commitment to root out corruption from the country.
“The raid on the Pakistani-run office in Brits must be welcomed by all South Africans as a sign of the unflinching determination of the government to root out corruption in our society,” Zuma told a foreign news agency.
There are upto 2,500 Pakistanis in South Africa, based in various locations across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
It has often been speculated that various Pakistani crime syndicates operate within the country, most of whom tend to be involved in drug smuggling. (ANI)
